About the book
In an era marked by dynamic socio-political shifts, STAGING SOCIETY: Contemporary Trends in Indian English Drama offers a compelling exploration of how Indian English dramatists have engaged with, interrogated, and reimagined the evolving contours of Indian society. This critical volume delves into the diverse thematic and stylistic currents shaping contemporary Indian English drama, spotlighting its role as both a mirror and a mediator of cultural discourse. Through incisive analysis of key playwrights and performances, the book examines how issues of identity, marginality, gender, class, and globalization are staged in nuanced and innovative ways. It traces the transition from the page to the stage, interrogating how drama responds to the tensions between tradition and modernity, local and global, individual and collective. Ideal for scholars, students, and theatre enthusiasts, STAGING SOCIETY not only maps the intellectual terrain of modern Indian drama but also affirms its relevance as a vibrant, critical force in contemporary literature and performance.
