About the book
Since the partition of British India into India and Pakistan in 1947, the Kashmir dispute between them has become an intractable one. They fought three wars over it in 1947, 1965, and 1999, but have not resolved it the Indians and Pakistanis like Israelis and Palestinians make claims to the same territory. Both India and Pakistan have joined the nuclear club, which makes the conflagration possible in the region. In this juncture, the role of diplomacy gains crucial importance and it becomes imperative to study the problems and prospects of diplomacy in resolving the age-old contentions between the South Asian neighbors.
This book is designed to explain the situation in the region and to offer possible courses of action. Second, the present study looks at some of the attempts made by India and Pakistan to settle the conflict and why they have failed. Third, this study proposes alternative solutions to the conflict and concentrate on one particular option that may work. Finally, the present study will also examine and offer the suggestions for the improvement in the normalization of relations between both India and Pakistan.
