The search for identity has always been an important concern for the writers of the Indian subcontinent in the postcolonial period. In his plays Karnad has studied the overlapping of identities in the postcolonial Indian context and how it is affecting the people of modern India. In my paper I intend to focus on how Girish Karnad presents the problems prevailing in modern Indian society and how that is modifying the space occupied by the individual in society and leading to the overlapping of identities in this present situation. My paper also focuses on how this overlapping of identities is affecting the life of the individual in the postcolonial context
