Conflict is an influential phenomenon in African poetry as the life and culture of African people are significantly impacted on by conflict. This paper studies the essence of conflict in African poetry, found thematically and stylistically, focusing on some prominent names like Gabriel Okara, David Diop, Wole Soyinka and so forth. The linguistic conflict in African poetry written in English is also under consideration. At the end, after acknowledging the impact of the various forms of conflict on African poetry, this paper sets forth a proposal of Africanizing the word 'conflict' as 'konflikt'
