The King of Mathura portrays how King Kans growing up under cruel circumstances, becomes himself an evil monarch full of malice, cruelty and jealousy. As a child, having fallen in love with a flute than a sword, his father thwarts his growth through evil machinations, making him a demonic character. In his turn, he becomes a megalomaniac, who destroys and kills everyone who crosses him in his inhuman ways. Kans himself narrates his story of extraordinary ambition which led him to become a demi-god. Finally, his own demonic ambition leads to his destruction.
