Andrew Motion, as a poet, came to limelight in the mid- seventies with oblique and tight-lipped narratives that for a time looked like the beginning of a new school. His poetic influence in the world of literature grew by leaps and bounds even as he seemed to situate himself in the Hardy-Larkin mainstream line of English poetry.
