Biography

Prof. Kartar Chand Sharma is a Senior Academician and Researcher with 26 years of teaching experience in higher education, currently serving as Professor of Sanskrit in the Department of Sanskrit at the University of Kashmir (NAAC A++), Srinagar. He is a recognized authority in Sanskrit Linguistics, Indian Poetics, Kashmir Shaivism, and Indian Culture, and has built a distinguished record in university administration, curriculum development, and national academic advisory work. In terms of administrative contributions, Prof. Sharma has served as Member of the Sanskrit Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, for a five-year term (April 2023 – March 2027), advising on national policy, literary awards, publications, and translation initiatives in Sanskrit. He also served as Coordinator of the UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre at the University of Kashmir (May 2023 – January 2025), overseeing faculty development and pedagogical training programs, and has held the position of Nodal Officer at the Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA), Department of Sanskrit, since 2008, managing departmental quality audits and NAAC documentation. As a scholar, Prof. Sharma has authored two books (with two more under publication), edited nine journals, and published 30 research papers in peer-reviewed national and international journals, alongside 16 book chapters in edited academic volumes. He has guided six Ph.D. research scholars. His academic engagement includes 60 research paper presentations at national and international seminars and conferences, 17 invited keynote and guest lectures, chairmanship of seven academic sessions, and active participation in 10 academic webinars.
