About the book

The Ashtavakra Gita is the instantaneous discourse of the classical Advaita Vedanta scripture. It is essentially the philosophical negotiation between Janaka, the father of Sita and the Sage Ashtavakra. The scripture contains 20 chapters and 285 shlokas (Cantos). Ashtavakra Gita presents a rather imaginary conversation or dialogue between the two vis-a-vis the nature of self-realisation, self-fulfilment, self-actualization and freedom of the soul, beyond the Id, Ego and the Super-ego. It has the same arrangement as the Bhagavad Gita, but differs from it in its attention to the philosophy of Advaita. In this book, my effort is to study the discourses related to new literatures which may be related to philosophy as an allied discipline, available in our mythical literatures and Indian Knowledge Systems, particularly in relation to the debate and the dialogue of the Ashtavakra Gita.
