About the book

Kanaksen Deka’s novel has a unique charm as it arrests the attention of the readers from the very inception and sustains that interest till the end. Deka has transcended the boundary of conventional Assamese fiction and created a rare and original novel. Assamese literature has been enriched by novels and short stories and Deka’s novel is a significant addition to this gamut. He has recreated a forgotten historical timeframe and phase in this novel. It brings to light the national life of our country. It describes vividly the pre-independence and the post-independence socio-political condition of our national life in the context of a region. Deka has given special significance to the changes brought about by the much coveted independence. Writing novels requires craft and Deka is a seasoned writer which becomes evident during the perusal of the novel. The novel also tells familial histories and Deka does that sincerely. There are many sub-plots within the main plot. It belongs to the rank of classical Assamese novels. The language is urbane and journalistic.
