About the book
Ganga Avatharanam or descent of river Ganga or Ganges is a small episode in VALMIKI'S RAMAYANAM. The story revolves around a great Emperor by name BHAGIRATHA who takes upon the almost impossible task of bringing River Ganga from heavens to the earth to exonerate the sins of his forefathers and send them to heavens. First he does great penance for many years When Ma Ganga appears. But says that the earth cannot bear her weight and advises Bhagiratha to seek the help of Lord Shiva. Bhagiratha again does penance (Thapas) for many long years when Lord Shiva appears and accepts to hold Ma Ganga and tenderly release her on Earth. The story takes many thrilling turns and twists and runs fast with great tempo. Finally Bhagiratha achieves his goal after many predicaments and pain with great determination. The small story of GANGA AVATHARANAM that appears in Srimad Ramayanam was dramatised and narrated with flair and tempo. A must read for those who love Hindu religious books and this who wish the book to be fast-running with cadence and interesting scenes. There is also ample discourse, debate and discussion about divine love and devotion.
