About the book
This is the story of an unsung journeyman of a journalist who grew up in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata, married his university classmate and fell in love with Singapore when he went to work there for a better-paying newspaper, leaving behind his wife and newborn son. His wife continued teaching in a college in Kolkata and taking care of their son till the boy went to college in America. For several years, the family of three lived in three different countries. Eventually, the son got married while his parents were reunited, too, and nobody was left alone. Spanning more than six decades, this real-life saga winds through Kolkata and Singapore, fondly lingering over their newspapers and newsrooms. Loneliness, aspirations and the diaspora, all feature in this bittersweet life story of an ordinary newsman, who accepts voluntary retirement, and his beautiful, indomitable wife suffering from a mysterious malady as they vie for happiness on the island of his dreams.
