Our commitments

• No fee is quoted before a named editor has accepted the manuscript. The editorial decision is made first, and paying, declining an estimate or asking for a waiver has no bearing on it.
• Every estimate is itemised against this rate card and the book's own measurements (words, pages, figures, colour pages, chapters). Where a service has levels, the estimate states which level applies and why.
• Waivers, subsidies and discounts appear on the estimate with their reasons.
• At-cost items, such as printing, are charged at the supplier's quoted amount, and the quote is kept on record.
• An estimate already issued does not change if these rates change.

A package is a fixed price for the terms it lists. Work beyond them is priced from the rates below.

Rates for individual services

Refunds

No fee is asked before the editors have accepted the book, so an author whose book is declined pays nothing and has nothing to reclaim. Once an invoice has been paid, the fee is refundable as follows. Before production begins, the whole amount is refunded on request. After production begins, the part of the fee that covers stages not yet started is refunded, and stages already completed stay charged at the rates on this card. Once the book has been published, the fee is not refundable. A refund is made to the account the payment came from.

Waivers and subsidies

An author who cannot meet the fee may ask for a waiver or subsidy, in writing, after acceptance and before the estimate is issued. The Managing Editor decides, and the reason is recorded. The request is considered on the author's circumstances. It has no bearing on the editorial decision, which has already been made. A waiver or subsidy appears as its own line on the estimate and the invoice. Where two companies invoice the work, the reduction is shared between them in proportion.
