Gender Studies

Gender studies is a vast area which dissects the representations of women, masculinity and queers. This volume includes chapters covering diverse areas. The essays focus on women's relationship with nature, women characters in Shakespearean adaptations, depiction of women in popular cinema and literary texts and debates on queers. The book does not limit itself within analysis of cultural texts, the essays also enquire the condition of people of different gender identities in socio-cultural background. Thus the book includes essays from different disciplines. The editors believe that the essays would provoke the readers to think and instigate them to apply the ideas to untie the complexities associated with representations of genders. About the Editors Akaitab Mukherjee is an Assistant Professor of English at School of Social Sciences and Languages (SSL), Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Chennai, India. He has completed graduation in English Literature from Krishnagar Government College (affiliated to University of Kalyani) and post-graduation in the same subject from Pondicherry University. He has completed his doctoral research on film adaptation at Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad. His research area includes Film Adaptation, Environmental Humanities, and Postcolonialism. Dr. G. Bhuvaneswari is an Associate Professor of English at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Chennai. She received her Ph.D. from University of Hyderabad. She has totally 16+ years of work experience. She has published 52 Research papers and edited a Book on 'Cultural Studies'. She is the co-principal investigator of a project on Labour, Birth, and Agentic Crises in Maternity Ward in the Urban Setting: Pluralistic Qualitative Mixed Method Research funded by VIT. She has received 'Best Academician Award' in the year 2023 from University Putra Malaysia and Bodhi International Journal.
